Muslims urged to 'go back to scriptures'
Dubai: An organiser of a workshop on the Quran has urged Muslims to go back to their scriptures to understand whether what they are doing is correct.
He was commenting to a remark that many Muslims while away their time, smoking shisha or playing board games during Ramadan nights instead of praying and abstaining from such activities.
"To understand your religion go back to your scriptures and implement what was done by Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)," said Mohsin Bin Ahmad, programme coordinator.
The workshop will be conducted in English and will delve into when and where the Quran was revealed, the concept of divine inspiration, Science and Quran. The Quran was revealed to Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) during the ninth lunar month of Ramadan.
The workshop will be held by Ahmad Hamed and Afaq Hashemi, who will deliver the lecture in the style of Dr Zakir Naik, a famous Islamic scholar and writer on comparative religion.
The Quran Centre was established two years ago. It regularly holds lectures in English, Urdu and Malayalam.
The Centre recently selected a group of 50 people who will convey the Message of Islam and help remove misconceptions about the religion.
Another interesting event before Ramadan is an exhibition at the Dubai International Financial Centre from August 19 featuring Quran.
I have been reading books about Islam and the Holy Quran, even though I am not a Muslim, through this, I have learned a lot. And following what is written in it makes me feel that Im a better person now.. Its not about watching and observing the people how they act, from some you might get confused, its all about starting doing the right things. And I believe, such workshops like this will help us understand more about Islam, especially to non-Muslims who got attracted to it.

I wonder if the workshop is open to non-Muslims like me. I am just interested in knowing and understanding better a religion that I am currently exposed to. It is always nice to hear and learn new stuff in your life correct? Hope many Muslims will take advantage of this one. It will not make them lesser individuals if they try to attend one like this. Besides, this is just one thing that will make them appreciate what they have and uplift their spirituality.

In Ramadan we are taught to abstrain from all the wrong doings and to offer prayers as much as we can. Wasting time just for fun means losing the precious moments which are gift to us by God in the shape of Ramadan. In this month the reward of every single prayer is many folds. Hence, all the Muslims should take the maximum benefit out of this month.

Yes this is really important for muslims to understand what our Glorious Quran says... I've known many muslims believe what their forefather has said and they are practicing it without knowing is it right or wrong... so it is really important for all of us Muslims to know what is said in Quran by Almighty ALLAH subhana waa taala and how our beloved Prophet (PBUH) spent his life.

This is a wonderful idea as many Muslims sometimes need reminding and revising the Holy Quran, as life tends to get busy, and also a great time for non-Muslims to gain an understanding on Islam. Is there going to be a workshop such as this in Abu Dhabi?
