All artists above the age of 20, from the UAE and across the world, are invited to participate in UAE 46, an art competition commemorating the 46th National Day of the UAE on December 2, 2017. The event has been organised by Swiss Art Gate, a UAE-based company that initiates art, culture and educational projects. It aims to celebrate, appreciate and reflect the achievements of the UAE over the last 46 years through art.

Part of the proceeds from the sale of the artworks will go towards supporting the charity foundation “Wanna Read?” led by Shaikha Shamma Bint Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan. The nonprofit organisation, established in 2013, aims to encourage reading and foster wellbeing by creating warm, friendly and stimulating areas in paediatric wards, filled with an abundance of books, to help children through their healing and rehabilitation.

Entry to the competition is free and the artworks must be submitted by 12 noon on October 16. Participants can use various media to create original artworks that represent the spirit of the Union of the UAE, founded on December 2, 1971, and its achievements in the last 46 years.

A panel comprising Shaikha Shamma Bint Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Stefan Fuchs, general manager, Etihad Towers Abu Dhabi, and Kurt Blum, general manager, Swiss Art Gate will select the finalists and winners of the competition based on creativity, originality, quality, visual impact and the implementation of the theme, UAE 46.

The original works and their limited edition prints will be displayed at the Etihad Towers Hotel, Abu Dhabi and Swiss Tower in Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai from December 1 to 15. The artworks will be auctioned during the exhibition, with 10 per cent of the sales proceeds going to “Wanna Read?”.
