Dubai: The works of 12 artists of various nationalities who reside in the UAE were displayed in an exhibition titled "Worlds Together", hosted by the Marsam Mattar art gallery.
"Worlds Together is an artistic gathering that explored artists from different nationalities and backgrounds but living in the UAE. The exhibition talks about their personalities and perspectives of life. It's their inner creative feelings depicted on canvas portraying their state of mind in various visual images for everyone to see and sense," said Sumayyah Al Suwaidi, the Emirati curator of the exhibition, who is currently studying for a masters degree in art and culture.
Asked how the idea first crossed her mind, she replied, "I recently attended an exhibition at the Dubai International Financial Centre where I saw the artworks of a number of artists and I was really impressed by their creations. I then got their contacts in order to coordinate with them and for their cooperation in future."
The participating artists included Kristy Anne Ligones, Guillermo Munro, Ella Elenzano Orencillo, Ali Murad, Liz Ramos-Prado, Mohammad Hindash, Maria Neschetna, and Victoria Viray. Gulf News met three of the artists and found out more about their works.
Liz Ramos-Prado is a realistic and expressionist artist from South America. She had 12 artworks on display including The Mask, The Key and Artificial.
"My art revolves around the feminism and accentuates the circumstances of life that the woman goes through. Art makes me effortlessly bring out her various states of mind such as her moments of happiness and sadness and enables me to analyse her inner feelings profoundly." the 35-year-old artist said.
Guillermo Munro is a Gulf News designer who also takes active part in several art exhibitions in Dubai. "I love the idea of an exhibition, which results in a beautiful artistic dialogue among participants, and facilitates artists from different cultures to meet under a local guidance."
Filipina Kristy Anne Ligones is drawn to the realm of dreams and nightmares and adores authenticating the hidden aspects of the human being through her brush strokes. "Indeed, I'm drawn to the facts that we as human being are mixed with mysterious feelings and designed by a huge complex of reactions towards what we go through in life. Therefore we hide most of them and instead wear a beautiful mask. Art allows me to get it all out and admit the fact that we are a mix of both good and bad feelings. After all we are just human."
