Eight Emirati designers will show their work at the London Design Fair (September 20-23), thanks to efforts by Dubai Design District (d3), who will host the second chapter of UAE Design Stories: The Next Generation from the Emirates in the UK.

The exhibition, supported by the UAE Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, is curated by Emirati product designer Khalid Shafar.

Titled Objects of the Past: Today, it dives into photographic archives of the UAE and the region’s nomadic roots. Designers have been tasked with providing their own contemporary take on these historical pieces.

The exhibition will also travel to Paris as part of the UAE-France Cultural Dialogue programme and return to the UAE for Dubai Design Week (November 12-17).

The eight designers participating are Abdalla Almulla (architect), Alia Bin Omair (jewellery designer), Alia Mazrooei (interior designer), Aljoud Lootah (multi-disiplinary designer), Azza Al Qubaisi (sculpture and product designer), Rouda Al Shamsi (interior designer), Salem Mansoori (interdisciplinary designer), and Ahmad Al Areef (multidisciplinary Bedouin artist).

Mohammad Saeed Al Shehhi, CEO at d3, called Dubai a “creative nerve centre” and said they are proud to “showcase our country’s heritage through the works of our local designers.”

The first chapter of the exhibition was held in Milan in April.
