Dubai: Siemens on Thursday announced plans to boost investments into its digital presence in the Middle East with US$500 million over the next three years. Among these investments are the MindSphere Application Centers, with two planned in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. At these centers solutions are developed on MindSphere, Siemens’ cloud-based operating system.
The centre in Dubai will handle airports, logistics and cargo to co-develop approaches that improve the movement of people and goods while the one in Abu Dhabi will cater to process industries, mainly focusing on oil and gas, water and waste water. Siemens is also providing software grants to university youth in the UAE, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The grants seek to develop the skills required to drive the region’s digital transformation.

In cooperation with Dewa and Expo 2020 Dubai, Siemens has taken the first steps to develop a green hydrogen economy in the UAE. The use of hydrogen technologies has the potential to accelerate renewable energy integration and deployment in the region and pave the way for the transition to a sustainable and green economy in the UAE.
Over the past five years, Siemens has steadily increased its workforce in the region creating an average of 135 jobs per year. The company has also focused on strengthening its Research and Development (R&D) capabilities in the region, employing more than 500 people; and helping create a connected expo using the MindSphere system.
