Dubai:  UAE telecom firm Etisalat announced on Thursday that it has started selling the next generation wearable phone, Apple Watch Series 3.

The cellular-capable gadget, which was earlier reported to carry a starting price tag of Dh1,364, will be available to customers in UAE on June 15 and orders can be placed starting tomorrow, Friday, the company said in a statement.

“Etisalat is thrilled that the much-awaited Apple Watch Series 3 will be available to customers in the UAE for the first time. The Apple Watch Series 3 will be a game changer in the wearables category,” said Khaled El Khouly, chief consumer officer at Etisalat.

The company will also offer a special introductory trial to customers, and as a launch promotion, they will get a free subscription for the first three months for the cellular capability.

The American tech giant’s Apple Watch is said to be one of the bestselling gadgets. In 2017, the company sold 20 million watches, according to USA Today and GBH Insights.

The latest upgrade, Apple Watch Series, 3 features a built-in GPS and cellular. With the device, users with an active lifestyle can make calls or receive texts whatever they’re doing -- whether they’re in the gym, out for a run or on the water -- and they don’t need to carry their iPhone with them. Users can also stream songs or track fitness.

“A cellular watch could be an interesting option for fitness buffs,” said Khouly.

The device comes in two models, one with GPS and cellular, and one with GPS, both featuring a 70 percent faster dual-core processor and new wireless chip.

Etisalat is the first UAE operator to offer the eSIM function over Apple Watch cellular. For customers to enjoy the cellular capability on the new watch, they need to pay  Dh25 to enable the eSIM on their Apple watches.
