Dubai: In about three years, Dubai will begin hosting the World Expo 2020, but before the six-month event can kick off, a lot of jobs have to be filled first.

Over the last few months, a number of vacancies for the mega event had already opened up, with new job postings being added every now and then. Those who are on the lookout for new employment opportunities are then well advised to keep up to date with the recruitment.

Just between July and August, several slots at various career levels opened up, with positions ranging from driver to campaign marketing manager and pensions officer to vice president.

Most of the recent job openings, however, are not for fresh graduates, but for candidates with experience in their respective fields and are at associate, mid-senior and executive career levels.

There were also vacancies posted earlier, between May and June, and they were for supply chain, procurement; information, communications and technology; and commercial departments. Recruitment for earlier postings, however, may have already expired.

Analysts had predicted that the employment sector in the UAE would enjoy a short-term boost from hosting the World Expo 2020, with approximately 200,000 jobs expected to be made available.

Over the last few weeks, companies in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain posted more than 2,500 new vacancies on Gulf News’ getthat.com, with engineers, accountants and sales executives among the top skills being highly sought after.

Overall, companies in the region are still conservative with their recruitment needs, with a variety of global, regional and local factors, including oil prices impacting the UAE economy, according to Gareth El Mettouri, associate director at Robert Half UAE.

“It is promising to see that giving the general level of uncertainty UAE businesses are optimistic about their prospects for growth towards the tail-end of the year. As such we are seeing businesses eager to explore options that will support their growth in revenues and competitive advantage, and are turning to their finance departments to support them in finding these opportunities,” El Mettouri told Gulf News.
