Dubai: While recruitment activity remains somewhat subdued this month, jobseekers in the UAE will find thousands of vacancies across a vast spectrum of industries today.
Companies in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah are still recruiting new employees, from drivers to accountants and office assistants to sales executives and project managers.
The latest vacancy listings at Gulf News’ getthat.com have more than 2,200 jobs advertised as of Wednesday, with employers looking to fill various positions at hotels, clinics, retail stores, factories and beauty salons, among many other businesses.
Companies that appear to be hiring the most are those in the construction and engineering industry, which has at least 402 positions up for grabs.
Also at the top of the list of highest number of job openings are recruitment and consultancy firms, which have nearly 200 roles to fill, while businesses in the food and beverage, hospitality and hotel sectors are also among the top performers, with more than 150 vacancies.
According to Emirates NBD’s latest economy tracker, “employment remained broadly unchanged” this month, although businesses are still optimistic about their prospects over the coming year.
Companies in the wholesale and retail trade are doing well, including those in the construction, travel and tourism industries.
A number of organisations, particularly those in the wholesale and retail trade, benefited from the spike in consumer spending during Ramadan and Eid holidays, while those in the construction sector were likely buoyed by new projects.
However, there are still opportunities in other sectors. Candidates looking to work in the manufacturing industry won’t get disappointed, with 125 roles currently being advertised on getthat.com, while the retail sector is on the lookout for qualified candidates to fill nearly a hundred vacancies.
Recruitment is also going on at companies in the automotive, healthcare, information and technology, real estate, utilities, advertising and oil and gas industries. Although they have the least number of jobs available, companies in the fashion, apparel and accessories, media and broadcasting, and transportation are also seeking new talent.
Recruitment specialists had earlier predicted that hiring activity will pick up this year following a significant decline in the last few years, owing partly to weak oil prices.
Between January and March this year, jobs remained scarce, particularly in the banking and financial services, information and technology, telecommunications, oil and gas, production, manufacturing, automotive and ancillary sectors, which all registered a decline in online job listings, according to the Monster Employment Index.
Overall, job listings in the UAE declined by 47 per cent during the first three months of the year, the highest in the Middle East.
“The consumer goods industry and procurement, logistics, supply chain occupations are continuing to do well in the UAE,” Sanjay Modi, Managing Director, Monster.com, Asia Pacific and Middle East, said in April.
“These are complementary findings, as purchase, logistics, supply chain professionals are needed to help make consumer goods available to consumers, therefore, the results suggest that consumer confidence remains positive and the appetite for consumer goods is still high.”
Naukrigulf had said that recruitment activity will be robust this year, especially in the healthcare, construction and hospitality industries.
