Do you sometimes struggle to squeeze in your daily fruit and vegetable quota? Juice them! What you need is a reliable machine strong enough to crush, and sturdy enough to avoid spillage to yield the maximum juice. On your hunt for a juicer, you will come across two kinds - the cold-press (masticating) and centrifugal juicer. We asked experts about each and their opinion on the best brand.

Dr Juice Cafe in Al Mina, Dubai, mainly operates on a cold-press juicer. Nada Matar, the consultant to the cafe and a health coach, told Gulf News that this style of juicing retains more nutrients, as opposed to centrifugal: "When you use a centrifugal juicer, its speed creates a lot of heat, which quickly breaks down the enzymes in the fruit and vegetable, causing oxidation. The fruit loses its freshness, where the nutrients are. But if you're on a budget, centrifuges are more cost-effective, accessible and faster than cold-press juicers."

Yet the slow, grinding process of a masticating juicer yields drier pulp after squeezing out all of the juice, and produces a less foamy drink. "Cold-pressed juice is not heat-treated, which is what I recommend. We use a 240-watt Kenwood slow juicer - we're able to produce for the entire shop with it, and it does an amazing job for its size, extracting all the juice out of the fruit," Matar said.

Over at The Acai Spot in Dubai Marina, the eatery prefers the durability of a commercial-grade 200-watt Kuvings slow juicer. Dmytro Umanets, the assistant food and beverage manager, says the brand survives their busy operation all day long and rarely requires any maintenance.

We've tracked down some of the best juicers available on Amazon, including both kinds of technology, with pros and cons to help you along. Subscribe to Prime and get your juicer tomorrow.

1. Best Overall: Kuvings EVO820 Whole Slow Juicer, 240 Watts

Pros

  • Squeezes juice slowly to keep nutrients intact
  • Works quietly
  • Wide feeder chute at 82mm
  • Produces dry pulp

Cons

  • Must not be used for more than 30 minutes at a time
  • Expensive

If you're prepared to wait for longer, invest in a cold-press juicer. Our pick is Kuvings' low-speed masticating machine that operates on 240W for domestic use. Its chute is 82mm wide, so you can bypass the pre-cutting stage and get straight to juicing. Buyers say it produces a very dry pulp residue, delivering the maximum juice yield in a 400ml drum, and is faster than most slow juicers on the market. Plus, it sits slim on the countertop with a dark red leather finish, looking as premium as it functions.

Warranty: Amazon offers a one-year extended warranty for Dh114 and two years for Dh162.

2. Best Centrifugal Juicer: Braun Juice Extractor, Silver, J700

Pros

  • Powerful performance
  • 15-second fast juicing
  • Large capacity
  • Works with hard and soft fruits

Cons

  • Cleaning it may take time

Compact and light, Braun’s juicer crushes both fibrous and soft fruits using a dual speed system. And it is speedy, for sure; prepare your glass of juice in 15 seconds, thanks to its powerful 1000W motor. It collects all the pulp in a 1.25-litre jug and even has a spacious 75mm chute to process whole fruits. If you’re worried about all the unnecessary froth, the spin juicer jug separates it for you. Once done, stick the parts in the dishwasher for a quick rinse.

Pros

  • Undulated fin to extract juice from all sides
  • Works quietly
  • Acid-resistant cone
  • Easy to clean with dishwasher safe parts

Cons

  • Limited to citrus fruits

Squeezing citrus fruits is a whole different ball game. Sage Citrus Press Pro takes care of that chore for you with a power-assisted lever and a juicing cone that spins. Depending on how you like your drink, there is a stainless steel filter to keep the pulpy texture out. Reviewers like how it gets the most juice out of any citrus fruit, be it lemon, grapefruit or oranges, and operates quietly with a powerful motor.

Warranty: Amazon offers a one-year extended warranty for Dh63 and two years for Dh89.

5. Best Multipurpose: Panasonic 800W Juicer

Pros

  • Multifunctional - juicer, blender and spice mill
  • Dual speed system for soft and hard fruits
  • 120-degree swivel spout
  • Large juice capacity at 1.5 litres

Cons

  • Uses centrifugal force

This Panasonic appliance is a centrifugal juicer, blender and a spice mill, all in one. Just switch the head between the provided parts and get your juicer in seconds. It has a dual speed system for fruits and vegetables that can easily slip into the 75mm-diameter feeder tube. There is no mess with this one. Tilt the spout skyward to keep the residual juice from spilling. The spout can even swivel from side to side, so everyone at the table can serve themselves. A mesh also keeps the pulp where it belongs – in the two-litre pulp container, not in your glass.

Warranty: Amazon offers a one-year extended warranty for Dh35 and two years for Dh49.
