Luxury cars wrapped in velvet was the trend about five years ago and we thought this fad had disappeared - but we were wrong judging by this poor BMW i8…
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) shared this image of the hybrid sportscar on their twitter feed and like a car crash, we just can’t look away.
Parked on a street in the city of Manchester, the i8 has been covered in rather distasteful exterior modifications. The owner of the BMW was cited - but it was not for bad taste, although it should have been. Instead, the police gave the owner a ticket because of “Body work embellishments likely to cause injury,” and for a “Crack to windscreen”.
It certainly does look like it could hurt someone because the body features several rather jagged carbon fibre scoops and spoilers on either side of the bumper - and it even has a weird Rolls-Royce-like Spirit of Ecstasy bonnet ornament.
There is plenty more wrong with this i8 aside from the black velvet body which extends down to the front bumper and that includes the windows that appear to feature a gold-coloured tint. It also has a splash of colour; there are yellow velvet accents on the bonnet, bumper and along the sides of the car. And just take a look at the gold kidney grille!
The last bit of oddity that we can spot are the two latches on the bonnet which seem to have wires running into the bright yellow vent. They look like bonnet pins, but they could be GoPro mounts. We’re not sure, but either way it makes this weird i8 even weirder.
In fact the whole thing makes us want to go and wash our eyes with soapy water…
