Nearly 1,000 people died when three typhoons hit the country from late September to late October
Manila: The United States has donated an additional US$10 million to help about two million Filipinos cope with the aftermath of typhoons that have devastated the northern Philippines.
Nearly 1,000 people died when three typhoons from late September to late October unleashed the heaviest floods in decades in and around Manila and in the northern mountains.
U.S. Ambassador Kristie Kenney said Thursday the latest assistance brought to $30 million the total American aid.
The U.N. is separately seeking $144 million to cover the work of relief aid agencies until March 2010.
Kenney said the money will be used for education, water and health needs.
