The moon is seen as it nears a total lunar eclipse on April 15, 2014 in Miami, Florida. People in most of north and south America should be able to witness this year's first total lunar eclipse, which will cause a 'blood moon' and is the first of four in a rare Tetrad of eclipses over the next two years. Dubai: A spectacular 'blood moon' - a rare phenomenon when the moon turns red -- will be directly observable by observers in the US, and certain parts of South America.

But intrepid sky watchers in other parts of the world, including the UAE, can join in through this live online streaming, beginning at about 10am UAE time. Scroll down for video.

To catch the celestial show on Tuesday (April 15), people would have to rise early in North America.

The phenomenon is when the Earth's shadow falls across the moon, shifting its color from bright orange to blood red to brown, depending on local weather conditions.

The lunar eclipse will unfold over three hours. It started at 9.58am UAE time, when the moon began moving into Earth's shadow.

A little more than an hour later, the moon will be fully eclipsed and shrouded in a red glow.

The celestial show will be over by 1.33pm UAE time, according to NASA.

The Prescott Laboratory in the US is providing this live stream of the celestial show:
