Floatation is a less obvious idea when it comes to trying alternative therapy. When you think about it, there is always some form of pressure on your body; whether you’re standing, sitting, or even lying down, part of you is always in contact with something.

That’s why floatation is becoming more and more popular; it’s a chance for your body to experience the rare treat of having no pressure on it whatsoever. You simply float there, in your own cabin or pod, in total isolation.

Point Zero, one of the UAE’s most popular floatation centres, has been operating in Abu Dhabi for several years. However in December 2014 they opened a new branch at Sky Garden, DIFC, right here in Dubai. It’s great news for those Dubai residents who are looking to get off their feet, and the rest of their bodies, of course.

This well-appointed facility is an excellent place to unwind after a hard day’s work, but why should you try it? What benefits are there to floatation?

We list five reasons why you should give it a try.

1. Muscle Pain

If you are nursing a mild sports injury or pulled muscle, then the healing process can be hindered by continued pressure.

Obviously you will have been told to “take it easy”, and you should, and it doesn’t get much easier than floating effortlessly on the water! By removing all pressure from your body, it allows the muscles time to relax. While it won’t heal it instantly, it will certainly ease any discomfort.

2. Stress

When we’re stressed or anxious, our muscles tense-up. In a lot of cases you won’t even notice it is happening. You’ll tense your shoulders, arms, legs… just about everything. Have you ever wondered what a stress-headache is? It’s the muscles around the top of your head tightening like a band.

The benefits of floatation in this area are simple: by locking the world out in a private floatation cabin you can compose yourself and your body will naturally un-tense.

3. Pregnancy

Men, move on to the next point. Expectant mothers, have you considered flotation during pregnancy to help ease the strain? As any mother will tell you, pregnancy puts a lot of pressure on a woman’s muscles and bones, and getting into a comfortable position can be nightmare, if not impossible.

It’s reported that floatation helps provide some respite from the pressures of pregnancy.

4. Back Pain

We’ve all been there: lifting something heavy and putting our back out. Lower lumber pain is especially uncomfortable. Even the seemingly simplest of tasks, like standing and sitting, can be excruciating.

Floating will alleviate the muscles around your lower back, and while it won’t solve the problem, it will certainly help!

5. High blood pressure

Our stressful lives can do more harm than perhaps we are always aware of. High blood pressure can result from several things, so it’s important to take some time out to bring our heart rates down.

Flotation is relaxing, and the simple act of floating around in a private cabin will give you a chance to think about less-stressful things, like meadows, tweeting birdies and cute puppies. This will lower your pulse and you’ll feel all the better for it.
