A group of young dance students put up a high-spirited show at the Indian Consulate auditorium on Friday as part of the Nrityaanjali event.

Dressed in colourful outfits, they entertained the crowd with Kathak– a narrative classical North Indian dance style in which the dancers use fast footwork and a variety of facial expressions.

Indian dance teacher Ketaki Hazra has been training dance enthusiasts in the UAE for the last two decades. And the students didn't disappoint her.

Fine displays of Odissi (another classical dance from the Indian state of Orissa), folk dance, and other classical pieces followed the kathak show.. The evening also included an entertaining kids segment titled Tiny Tots.

The highlight of the evening, which opened with an invovation,.however, was a performance by tabla maestro Keshab Mukherjee, who is a lecturer in fine arts at the Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata.

Nrityaanjali is an annual event which promotes classical dance and music and encourages young talent.
