Washington: WhatsApp has begun testing new audio and video call features for its Android users, marking a significant upgrade to its communication services.

According to GSM Arena, the features were spotted in beta version 2.25.10.16 of WhatsApp for Android, offering a preview of upcoming developments on the platform.

Mute Button for Incoming Voice Calls

One of the new features includes a mute button for incoming voice calls. This allows users to answer a call while keeping their microphone muted.

The option appears in the notification panel, giving users quick access to manage audio during calls. While its practical applications are still being explored, the feature could be particularly useful in noisy environments where background noise needs to be minimized.

Turn off camera before answering video calls

Another new feature gives users the ability to disable their camera before answering a video call. This allows a few seconds of preparation or a moment to maintain privacy before going on screen.

It’s especially beneficial for users who value personal space or need time to compose themselves. It also adds a layer of security when receiving video calls from unknown numbers, preventing users from appearing on screen immediately after answering.

Emoji reactions during video calls

The third feature brings emoji reactions to video calls, enabling participants to react in real time with emojis.

This enhances the video call experience by making interactions more expressive and dynamic, helping users engage more effectively during calls.

Gradual rollout to Beta testers

These features are currently available to select beta testers of WhatsApp for Android and are expected to roll out to more users in the coming weeks.

As WhatsApp continues to evolve, users can anticipate more enhancements and features tailored to their communication needs.
