Masik ousts top seed Amritraj from ITF Futures tournament

Dubai: Top seed Prakash Amritraj of India was knocked off in the men's singles even as Petra Cetkovska, the women's top seed rolled on into the semifinals at the Abu Dhabi ITF Futures.

Amritraj fell in three sets to seventh seed Jan Masik of the Czech Republic 2-6, 7-5, 6-2, while Cetkovska proved too strong with a 6-2, 6-0 win against fifth seed Angelina Gabueva.

Another upset in the men's competition came when fifth seed Victor Bruthans weathered his way past fourth seed Simon Stadler of Germany 7-6 (4), 1-6, 7-5.

Philipp Petzschner, who upset second seed Rohan Bopanna on the opening day, continued his dream run with an entry into the semifinals with a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 win against sixth seed Viktor Troicki.

Also advancing to the last four stage was Kuwait's eighth seeded Mohammad Al Gareeb with an emphatic 6-2, 6-3 win against Andrew Kennaugh.

Joining the top seed in the semifinals in the women's competition was second seeded Andreja Klepac with an outright 6-2, 6-4 win against sixth seeded Debbrich Feys.

She will meet Laura Bsoul in the semis after the German secured a 6-1, 6-3 win against third seeded Christine Sperling.

In the upper half of the draw, fourth seed Katerina Avdiyenko secured a meeting against the top-seeded Cetkovska with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Melissa Percy.

The top two seeds later combined to advance to the doubles final with a 6-0, 6-1 thrashing of third seeds Dalia-Diana Vranceanu and Vanessa Wellauer.

They will meet the second seeded pairing of Katerina Avdiyenko and Kristina Grigorian in the finals.
