As I write this week’s article, I am in Ras Al Khaimah for one of our Desert Rose Golfing Society (DRGS) staycations.

Rounds of golf at Al Zorah Golf Club, Al Hamra Golf Club and Tower Links Golf Club have all been played in a competitive yet friendly spirit.

Thank you to all the ladies who supported this trip.

‘What happens on tour, stays on tour,’ is the motto for DRGS, so I apologise that I cannot divulge any more non-golfing information at this point in time.

It is such a shame that our DRGS international trips have not been possible over the last 18 months, but we are connecting with our DRGS sponsors, Orient Tours, to see when we can properly travel, to hopefully Thailand, subject to all the current Covid-19 government regulations both home and abroad.

We continue to celebrate Pink October within DRGS and always support initiatives at many of the golf clubs. It has been a very busy October for us all.

We have one more DRGS Breast Cancer Awareness Golf Day and lunch on Monday November 1 at JA Resort, Jebel Ali and we thank Stuart McMurdo, Director of Golf, and all his team for making it happen.

We were all disappointed not to be able to be part of the early week activities of the Ladies European Tour’s Dubai Moonlight Classic held on the Faldo Course this week.

I visited Emirates Golf Club early in the week before travelling to Ras Al Khaimah and it was a treat to catch-up with Dubai’s Alison Muirhead and we are following her Gulf News diary with both humour and interest. It is also good to see other local participation in the tournament from other Dubai based players; recently turned professional Chiara Noja and Kristyna Napoleaova.

Membership Fees for DRGS are Dh1,000 per annum with an active and varied golfing calendar, other social activities, plus so much more is delivered through the platform of golf with the objective of connecting with old friends and making new ones.

The Desert Rose Golfing Society is supported by the Emirates Golf Federation, Gulf News, BMW, JA Resorts and Hotels, Orient Travel, Golf Superstore, Car Buying People and Mediclinic.
