Kevin Pietersen, master of the switch-hit, has been innovating on the cricket field again – this time with what he calls the ‘Helihook’.

The former England man performed the shot while playing for the Sunfoil Dolphins in the South Twenty20 league the ‘Ram Slam’.

Unlike the switch-hit – a shot he had clearly practiced when he first used it playing for England – the new shot was more of a reaction to Pietersen getting himself in the wrong position, before dispatching a full toss for six.

Pietersen’s Dolphins were unable to lift the Ram Slam title despite two centuries from their star man during the tournament.

They lost in the final to the Unlimited Titans at Centurion with Mangaliso Mosehle in fine form. Pietersen was out for 10.
