The Holy Quran Academy in Sharjah is the biggest complex dedicated to Islam and its teachings in the world. It is home to seven scientific and historical museums which offer detailed insights into the history of writing and the codification of the verses of the Holy Quran, starting in the Prophet’s Era, and a collection of Quranic manuscripts that chronicle Islam’s evolution in various countries across the ages.

Verses from the Holy Quran (Surat Hood) written in Kufic script with brown ink on an old sheet. The diacritical marks were made in red, and dots were added later to the words in a black colour different from the original text’s colour. This dates back to the 14th century AH, corresponding to the 10th century AD.

Additionally, the academy offers numerous programmes and activities for researchers and modern learners of the Quran, including a global electronic Maqari’a programme, which allows people to enrol from anywhere in the world to learn the Holy Quran’s isnads (references). More than 320 students from 101 countries are already enrolled.

Museum of the History of Writing the Noble Quran from the beginning of the codification of the verses of the Noble Quran in the Prophet’s Era until the modern era, and highlights the nation’s concern for the Noble Quran and its celebration. The museum displays 60 manuscripts distributed over 15 sections, each of which chronicles a century of events, and it is equipped with the latest technologies to familiarise the visitors of the Academy with the history of writing, in addition to allocating a room that simulates the cave of Hira with a display screen and audio devices that tell the story of the beginning of the revelation of the Holy Quran to Prophet Muhammad, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
