Al Ghurair’s commitment to education began in the early 1960s, when he built several schools across the UAE, including the first school in the remote area of Masafi, giving local students access to quality learning. He also established a model school in Dubai, which remains one of the country’s leading public schools. In 2015, he founded the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation (AGF), a non-profit organisation that serves as the family’s philanthropic legacy. Through a pledge of Dh4.2 billion, one-third of his personal wealth, the Foundation aims to provide educational opportunities and skills training to thousands of Emirati and Arab youth. In recognition of his contributions, Al Ghurair was named the first Goodwill Ambassador for Education in the Arab world in 2016 by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO). His lifelong dedication to advancing education continues to shape opportunities for future generations across the region.
