Learn about Emirati culture – and cars in this emirate

Family-friendly Sharjah is home to a number of opportunities to learn about Emirati culture and history. It is also home to some really cool experimental installations. Don’t know where to begin? Here’s a look at seven things you can try in the emirate.
Located along the Al-Majarrah Waterfront, this museum offers insights into artefacts that date back to the seventh century AD. From inventions to arts and crafts, this museum makes for a fun history lesson.
At this centre you will learn about the Bedouins – nomads native to the UAE. There are plenty of activities on site, from horseback riding to camping out at night, besides the information and artefacts on site to keep the kiddos engaged.
Vintage is the watchword right now and this museum homes in on its meaning. With more than 100 cars, bikes and bicycles, some of which date back to the early 20th century, this is one for the earnest car lover and co.
This immersive installation makes for a fun, impressive experiment. Installed at the Sharjah Art Foundation, this room reacts to physical movement and using 2,500 litres of self-cleaning recycled water, controlled through a system of networked 3D tracking cameras. Walk around and try it yourself, for Insta-cool photos and some hilarity.
This museum is all about experiments that end in a lesson. Kids can learn about nature, thermal physics, physiology and aerodynamics here. They can also understand how electricity works and learn about space. There are more than 50 interactive exhibits on site that foster innovative thinking.
At this Canal-bordering hot spot families can enjoy good food and cool weather, or head to the kids’ fun zone and indoor soft play centre, take an abra ride or try one of the electric water karts and bikes that are up for hire.
Animal encounters make for lovely days and your child will love getting to know the cute critters at the mobile petting zoo here. There are rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, ducks, goats, tortoises and even a Shetland pony to be met. All visitors will have the opportunity to feed, lead, pet, and groom the animals under the supervision of highly trained and skilled staff, says the company’s website.
