Regulations regarding lifeguards should be observed by all residential complexes
The ever-present threat of drowning needs to be in the minds of all who enjoy swimming pools for either recreation or exercise.
A recent incident in Sharjah highlights the need to exercise caution at all times while in swimming pools. A doctor saved the life of a young child who got into difficulties while in the water. Luckily, a tragedy was averted in this instance. Sadly, though, too many young people drown each year in swimming pools in the UAE.
Under no circumstances should young children be left alone to play in or near to swimming pools. It takes but a second for an accident to happen, a mistake which can cause a loss of life and a lifetime of regret. Authorities too must ensure that all regulations regarding lifeguards are followed by residential complexes.
Above all, every child should be actively encouraged to learn how to float, if not swim.
