Better buildings for a better UAE

'Green' construction standards will help to protect the environment we all depend on

Last updated:

Green buildings do more than protect and conserve the environment, they are also cost effective to run and save money for those that have to operate and maintain them.

This is why it is important that the government leads the way in showing private companies that green buildings are good for business and the economy.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has approved green building standards aimed at boosting environmental sustainability in the country. In the coming years these will be applied to government projects, including schools and hospitals. The guidelines set out efficiency levels for air-conditioning, energy systems and water usage, among other things.

As the economy of the UAE grows there will be ongoing construction and the development of new properties. Private companies as much as the government must ensure the buildings are constructed in a responsible manner for the good of the environment, on which we all depend.
