The Liwa Date Festival is an important event as it offers a glimpse into an integral part of Emirati culture — plantation and growing of the palm tree. The annual festival offers visitors an opportunity to familiarise themselves about the fruit and its history. Participants also get a chance to showcase the best of their produce and compete to win the Khalifa International Date Palm Award.

This year, over 3,600 farmers and 360 stands have been registered. In addition, the organisers have set up a children's area and a traditional souq, both of which will offer various activities and products.

The date festival though goes beyond the parameters of being a mere competition. It is an activity that ensures the continuation of the local heritage and history. More importantly, it gives Emirati youth the chance to learn about their culture and heritage.
