In the past weeks, the campaign for the Republican nomination for the White House has been derailed by the alleged sexual dalliances and harassment claims made against leading contender Herman Cain.

So far, five women have made claims of inappropriate advances from the former pizza chain magnate.

The American media, never afraid to take up the reins of a sexual scandal, have been leading the charge with detailed stories of the allegations. Cain's scandal, along with the — shock, gasp, horror — news that Kim Kardashian will be divorcing after just weeks of marriage, are ruling the airwaves of the United States. How sad. At a time when there are serious foreign policy matters that need to be debated — Iran's nuclear programme, Syria, or the recognition of Palestine as a member state of the United Nations, these affairs have pushed serious content aside.
