Dubai: Over the UAE National Day holidays, various emirates announced schemes to encourage motorists to pay off any traffic fine violations, which they may have incurred. Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah announced a discount of 50 per cent on most traffic violations, along with a waiver of black points and vehicle impoundment fees.

So, if you would like to take advantage of the scheme announced by these emirates, here is all you need to know.

Sharjah

On November 26, Sharjah Police announced that motorists can avail a 50 per cent discount on traffic fines that have been incurred before December 1, 2020. The police authority also said that all vehicle impoundments and traffic points would be cancelled. The discount scheme started on December 2 and will last for 49 days.

How can you pay?

• Through the Sharjah Police website: https://www.shjpolice.gov.ae/MOIServices/TrafficFines

• Through the Ministry of Interior app, available for Apple and Android devices.

• Through the ‘Sahl’ payment kiosks, which are located in shopping malls and public places.

You can inquire regarding your traffic fines by providing either your Traffic Code or T.C. No. (this can be found on the back of your UAE driving licence) or your vehicle plate number.

Once the system displays the details of the fines you have incurred, you can make the payment using a credit card or any card which allows online payment.

Which fines does the discount cover?

The discount will include fines accumulated for offences committed before December 1. However, it does not include serious offences.

Till when is the discount being offered?

According to the announcement, motorists can avail the discount for 49 days from December 2, 2020, which is till January 20, 2021.

Umm Al Quwain

The Umm Al Quwain police on November 26 announced a 50 per cent discount on traffic fines and removal of traffic black points from December 2, till January 2, 2021.

Which fines does the discount cover?

The discount will include fines accumulated for offences committed before December 2. However, the decision excludes serious offences.

How can I pay the fines?

You can pay the traffic fines:

• Through the Ministry of Interior app, available for Apple and Android devices.

On November 23, Ajman Police announced a 50 per cent discount, removal of black points and waiving of vehicle impoundment penalties.

Which fines does the discount cover?

The discount includes all types of fines committed in the emirate of Ajman before November 23, 2020, except for the following violations:

• Driving a vehicle in a way that endangers the driver’s life or the life of others or their safety.

• Making changes in the vehicle’s engine or base (chassis) without a licence.

• Any violations related to COVID-19 realted precautions, as issued by the UAE’s Attorney General.

You can pay the traffic fines:

• Through the Ministry of Interior app, available for Apple and Android devices.

• Through the Ministry of Interior website - https://www.moi.gov.ae/en/eservices/Payment.traffic.fines.191.aspx

• Through self-service kiosks at Ajman Police stations

• Service Centers

On November 25, Fujairah Police announced that a 50 per cent discount would be given on all the traffic fines, all black points would be cancelled and vehicle impoundment penalties would be waived. The reduction will apply to traffic violations registered before December 1.

Till when is the discount being offered?

According to the announcement, the discount is valid from December 2 until January 15.

Ras Al Khaimah

From December 2, Ras Al Khaimah police has offered a 50 per cent discount on traffic fines, extended till January 3.This relief scheme also includes all impoundments.

Smart-pay options

Ras Al Khaimah Police urged all motorists to take advantage of this grace period and renew the registration of their vehicles. Motorists can pay online via the smart apps of the Ministry of Interior to avail of the discount.
