Golden words that literally make for perfect Eid gift

We’re a little obsessed with all things gold in the Emirates. After all, we even have a gold ATM. So it’s little wonder that when this shiny wonder crossed our desks, we saw its potential as an Eid present immediately. 

In what it calls the most precious handwriting in the world, German brand Montblanc has rolled out a limited edition of 24-carat gold ink that evokes a little nostalgia for beautiful penmanship, for the mysterious and ancient art of alchemy, and for medieval books, which often featured gold text and imagery created by specialized artisans.

The luxury brand’s Golden Elixir Ink takes its name from medieval alchemists, who described an elixir as a magical preparation capable of changing base metals to gold.

In its square bottle (complete with engraved Montblanc logo on the cap), the ink appears dark red, but once it is dries on the paper, it appears to shimmer like gold. Made from genuine 24-carat gold, the ink is naturally one of the most expensive liquids worldwide – at €3,900 (approximately Dh16,000).

The ink comes with a Golden Elixir Notebook. It has deep black pages bound in soft calfskin leather, a black grosgrain bookmark and gilded edges, and offers a wide range of calligraphy examples for inspiration.

Just 100 pieces are being produced. As of June, the collection is available at select Montblanc stores around the world – but not in the GCC for now.
