Dubai: Veere di Wedding actress Swara Bhaskar has blundered into yet another social media controversy by declaring Pakistan a ‘failing state’ in an interview.
The video has gone viral. In an interview with Indian film critic, Rajeev Masand, Bhaskar talked about the recent ban in Pakistan on Veere Di Wedding. The film also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor and Shikha Talsania.
She said: “They’re [Pakistan] a nonsecular state. I’m not surprised at all. Why should we hold up Pakistan, which is a failing state — I don’t understand why we keep taking pleasure and feeling a sense of self-worth from all the silly things that happen in Pakistan.
“Apologies to all my Pakistani friends right now. Rest assured, Pakistanis have way worse vocabulary than we do. I know.”
The Pakistani VJ, model and actress who uses the handle @VJURWA on Twitter, responded: “Pakistan is the country that you, Swara Bhaskar, referred to, in 2015, as the “best country you have ever visited”, and it has only gotten better in the last few years in every aspect along with when it comes to having bigger hearts and welcoming our guest.

“This only reflects on you as an ignorant person who is also quiet contradictory in her own statements. It’s not a failing state for sure but you come across as a “Failing Human Being”! @ReallySwara From the citizen of the Phenomenal Pakistan”.

From the citizen of the Phenomenal Pakistan 🇵🇰
Ironically, an old video of Bhaskar’s visit to Pakistan in 2015 has resurfaced. At the time, she told Mohsin Abbas Haider, in the show Mazaaq Raat: “My friend and I came here and found that the state which is often viewed as the enemy state, is absolutely not like that at all. The amount of love we have received here.... I have travelled to a lot of places, London, New York, Paris, Istanbul, they are all nothing compared to Lahore.”

@SyedaSanaZehra1 added: “Imposing ban on your cheap-dialogued movie in Pakistan makes it an ignorant state? Remember we have welcomed you and given you respect in our state and you declared it as the best place to visit compared to London, Paris and New York? What a chameleon you are! #Veerediwedding #SwaraBhaskar”
