The foundation will receive the Morozov collection, one of the world's most important collections of impressionist and modern art. It will be exposed for the first time outside of Russia. Its exhibition at the Louis Vuitton Foundation is an event of exceptional historical and artistic significance, as was the exhibition of the Shchoukine Collection in 2016, which welcomed more than a million visitors.
The collection of brothers Mikhaïl and Ivan Morozov will present 200 masterpieces of modern French art such as Edouard Manet, Claude Monet, Toulouse Lautrec, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Vincent Van Gogh, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and many others, but also Russians like the pioneer of abstract artist Kasimir Malevich. The exhibition is organised by the Louis Vuitton Foundation in partnership with the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts and the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
More than the exhibition, the Louis Vuitton welcomes two new artworks for fall 2021.The first one is Elegy, from The Turkish artist Özgür Kar, known for his sketched giant male bodies. It’s a multi-screen installation that takes the form of a contemporary elegy, inspired by the tradition of macabre dances. Three screens embedded in transport boxes appear on three skeleton musicians who talk about the passing time to the sound of a concerto for transverse flute, clarinet and double bass.
The second is The Day Dream from the Bianca Bondi: a unique visual, sound and olfactory landscape. The Daydream is made up of a central sculpture, a source of vital energy between a well and a fountain, surmounted by a cloud of plants made up of flowers and stabilised plants. Inspired by Mexican cenotes and evoking divinatory practices or even offering rites, this spiritual space conducive to reverie and meditation invites "an unreal experience anchored in reality" in the artist's own words.
The Morozov Collection and Bianca Bondi arrive for September 22, and Özgür Kar for October 1, 2021 at the Louis Vuitton Foundation.
