Versace recently revealed its Men’s Fall-Winter 2022 collection via a video. However, there was a difference – the new line was not merely aimed at the traditional Versace man, but an evolved version thereof. Under the creative direction of Donatella Versace, the collection is forward-looking and is more inclusive of men who express their individuality through their clothing.
According to Donatella Versace: “This collection looks not at the Versace Man, but to the Versace Men. It represents a next step and move forward, not focusing on the singular but on multiplicity, progression, and diversity — exactly what I see valued by the new generation and the way they express their masculinity.”
In essence, the new line breaks moulds and stereotypes that might be associated with men’s fashion.
The clothes are minimal cut and the silhouettes are not as elaborate as one would expect. There is an underlying tone of sensuality to the new Fall-Winter 2022 collection, as well. The designs are simpler and include suits, wool sweaters and jackets, featuring silk and cashmere blends. In fact, everyday functionality is key to the new collection, which also brings back the latest La Greca pattern the House introduced last year.
An Instagram post announcing the collection dubs it as a piece of ‘Modern Opulence’. Adding: ”Designs in the Versace FW 22 Men’s collection are sensitive and intimate to the individual, while likewise proudly calling out to a plurality of Versace Men in celebration of who they truly are.”
The new collection is a departure from Versace’s approach to presenting men’s and women's lines together, and essentially seeks to answer the question: Who is the Versace man?
The collection promotes diversity and represents the Versace Man 2.0, and in line with this thinking, Donatella Versace decided to reveal the line on the second day of the second month of 2022.
