Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2022 has recently concluded, making way for the equally-anticipated Paris Fashion Week, which opens today. However, before we jump into the latest design extravaganza, here’s another peek at Milan Fashion Week, which featured in excess of 65 physical shows this year.

Naturally, every heavyweight from the industry from Bottega Venetta to Versace was in attendance. Speaking of Bottega Veneta, Matthieu Blazy made his much-awaited debut at the show. The 35-year-old Belgian designer has worked at several brands such as Maison Margiela Artisanal and Calvin Klein before joining as design director at the brand recently. The looks featured cropped tops and denims, while the knitwear was decidedly more eccentric.

Giorgio Armani’s show did not feature any music as the designer’s sign of respect towards the events unfolding in Ukraine. The show was replete with trademark Giorgio Armani silhouettes, reaffirming his position as one of the heavy-hitters in business.

This being Milan Fashion Week, the most quintessential of Italian brands, Ferrari, was also present. The designs were sporty and yet markedly upscale. In essence they were an ode to the marque’s exclusive nature, as well as its motor racing successes.

Dolce & Gabbana were back as well with a Fall/Winter collection that was sensual, yet supremely elegant.

Versace’s Fall/Winter collection at Milan Fashion Week was a return to femineity. According to Versace: ‘Never shy or retiring, the Versace woman has a powerful and seductive sense of mystery, shifting in and out of sight’. Expectedly the line-up didn’t disappoint. From power suits to designs dripping with crystals, it was quite the statement.

Prada celebrated with a new collection that seemed to reflect their storied past, as well as the present. There were classic tank tops paired with skirts and leather bomber jackets, along with stunning knitwear.

All in all, Milan was breath of fresh air and demonstrated signs of optimism for the industry, despite the pandemic. Bring on Paris!
