As celebrations for the UAE’s Golden Jubilee gather momentum, Bloomingdale’s, the American luxury department chain, has announced a partnership with renowned UAE-based visual artist Ichraq Bouzidi. Bouzidi will create a bespoke illustration that commemorates this milestone.

The artwork is dubbed 'The Year of The Dreamers', and is Ichraq’s interpretation of the emotional connection she has with the UAE and her years growing up in the country. The piece will be unveiled on December 2 across Bloomingdale’s platforms, and in-store at The Dubai Mall.

The collaboration is a homage to the country and represents the indomitable spirit of progress it fosters, as well as the theme of this being the year of the dreamers.

The artwork is an ode to dreamers – those who shaped, are shaping, and will shape the nation’s future. The commissioned piece will feature a mix of the national anthem along with sounds of nature to encompass what the UAE stands for.

“My memory goes back to my first encounter with the Fossil Rocks and Desert, I was with my family and remember hearing a piece of unknown piano music bouncing poetically with the wind blowing. This design reminds me of my beautiful childhood in this country and everything I have achieved because of it,” said Ichraq Bouzidi.

Ichraq has a minimalistic approach to her work, however she focuses on the paradox of clarity and ambiguity. Her creations evoke emotion, and yet have the duality of recognition and alienation.

The partnership with Ichraq is an initiative by Bloomingdale’s to support collaborations with artists and content creators that encourages them to produce impactful and creative designs to promote homegrown talent.
