Disciplinary action available to employers

Actions that can be taken against rule-breaking employees

Last updated:

My company staff and labourers often act in violation of rules and cause too much problem for me and affect my business. Sometimes I lose control of them. My question here is; what are the disciplinary penalties that I am entitled to practice as per the Labour Law in case of any violation? Can I impose fine on them immediately? Please advise in accordance with the Labour Law Article.

I would like to clarify to the questioner that article no. 102 of the Federal Labour Law no. 8 of 1980 provides for the following: “The disciplinary penalties that an employer or his representative may impose on the workers shall be as follows:

1- A warning;

2- A fine;

3- Suspension from work with reduced pay for a period not exceeding 10 days;

4- Forfeiture or deferment of a periodic increment, in establishments having an increment scheme;

5- Forfeiture or promotion, in establishments having a promotion scheme;

6- Dismissal without prejudice to severance pay;

7- Dismissal with forfeiture of all or part of severance pay. This penalty may only be imposed on the grounds expressly specified in article 120 of this law”.
