Abu Dhabi: A group of 20 Indians became the latest winners of the Dh7 million Abu Dhabi Big Ticket. They had bought three raffle tickets.
The draw was held at the Abu Dhabi International Airport’s arrival hall at 10am on Tuesday. The prize money will be distributed among them as per contributions from each person in buying the ticket.
Tojo Mathew’s winning ticket number was 075171. Thirty-year-old Mathew recently resigned from his job as a civil supervisor in Abu Dhabi and settled in New Delhi a week back as his wife works there as a nurse.
All members of the group work in Abu Dhabi and are highly excited on winning the prize.
Now his brother, Titto Mathew, 29, who is also a civil supervisor in Abu Dhabi and a shareholder of the winning prize, contributed Dh50. He said the group has been buying three tickets each month religiously for the past seven months but this month turned out to be the luckiest.
“Both of us came together to Abu Dhabi six years back. But since my brother’s wife is working in Delhi, he also moved there and managed to get a good job as draftsman in a construction company in New Delhi,” Titto Mathew told Gulf News.
“However, I will keep working and would not leave my job even though I have won the prize.”
The contribution of 20 winners varies from Dh50 to Dh100 and they would get a share each, accordingly. “So far, we don’t know how much each of us would get from the prize as we have not calculated it as per contributions of each individual in the group,” Mathew said.
He said that he would continue to buy the Big Ticket.
Seven other draw winners of prizes of Dh100,000 each included five Indians, one Pakistani and a Kuwaiti.
Indian expat Eqlaqh Kamil Qureshi won the BMW series 02.
The Big Ticket is the largest and longest-running monthly raffle draw for cash prizes and dream luxury cars in Abu Dhabi.
These tickets can be purchased online or at Abu Dhabi International Airport, Al Ain Duty Free and City Terminal Abu Dhabi.
Tickets remain at their usual price of Dh500, and if you buy two tickets, one ticket is given for free.
