It was my first time properly dining at Rockfish, the Mediterranean seafood restaurant at Jumeirah Al Naseem. The first time was during Jumeirah’s big bite out, and the bites were delicious, however and now that the weather is improving, it was the perfect opportunity to sit back and enjoy an outdoor dinner with views of the Burj Al Arab.

We started the meal off with a selection of cold dishes including Tasmanian salmon crudo, scallop ceviche, yellow fin tuna crudo. All were fresh and deliciously citrusy, there was also a great vegetarian option, which was Mediterranean garden salad and a cherry tomato tartar. The salmon stood out as my favourite of the bunch, especially since it was on a bed of crunchy radish salad and dressed with the most flavourful yuzu dressing.

Deliciously assembled by chef Jean Pascal, our main course involved a selection of grilled seafood including fresh garlic prawns, lobster, Alaskan king crab, mussels and clams. A rockfish bouillabaisse with potatoes and a selection of braised seafood, the Fregola Sarda pasta, an amazing pesto pasta full of green veggies and the star of the evening, which was the baked in salt crusted seabass.

I recommend ordering the seabass together with a side of Fregola pasta, with some mixed grilled seafood on the right. As a special treat we were served the rock lobster with fennel confit and saffron. The lobster was grilled to perfection, but could have used some more moisture. It was slightly dry, but a delicious addition to the meal nonetheless.

To end the meal on a sweet note, we tried a selection of four desserts on a tray. If you have space left, make sure you enjoy a strawberry and cream cheesecake, raspberry gateau saint honouree textures and temperatures of chocolate and date Mont Blanc. I walked away from dinner with the intense need to go back to Rockfish as soon as humanly possible.

Check it out: Rockfish has just launched its brand new Lazy lunch — a delicious four course meal with creatively delicious beverages — which is a perfect way to enjoy a relaxed Friday afternoon. The menu is available for Dh350 per person, including soft beverages, and Dh450 per person, including house beverages.
