Abu Dhabi: The weekend BBQ lunch at the Nation Riviera Beach Club is more than just a delicious weekend lunch venue.
The sprawling club built along a 200-metre stretch of sun-soaked sandy beaches on the corniche opposite the St Regis Abu Dhabi hotel is a great weekend hideout. The Beach Club can be easily accessed from the hotel’s main building through an air-conditioned underground tunnel
A relaxed afternoon by the pool, a delicious barbecue lunch and long walk on the beach – you can have all that and more at the Riviera Beach Club, which is part of the St Regis hotel.
Cabanas and sun loungers dot the temperature-controlled swimming pool complete with a swim-up bar. Besides an outdoor jacuzzi, there’s a Treasure Island Kids’ Club with supervised outdoor and indoor facilities.
We spent almost all of the afternoon lazing in the sprawling pool. Hunger pangs struck soon. You can either choose from an a la carte menu that will be served at your pool lounge or opt for the BBQ lunch. The a la carte menu is typically the easy to eat selections like sandwiches, burgers and some finger foods.
We walked straight to the BBQ lunch counter facing the beach. The sight of choice cut steak, chicken fillet and fresh seafood being grilled to perfection was in itself a great appetiser. The spread was simple keeping in mind guests would be heading back to the pool or the beach. There was also a decent selection of salads – both Oriental and continental – and also grilled veggies.
You can also have the barbecued meat assembled into burgers of your choice. That seemed exactly what we were craving for after a good swim. The angus beef burger and the grilled chicken burger we ordered tasted good except for the overdose of mustard sauce. For the sweet tooth, the spread of desserts was not disappointing with fresh fruit salads, raspberry muffins and tarts.
The service has still room for improvement given the world class facilities the club offers.
