Ramadan recipe: Milk halawa

Serves 10-12

Ingredients:

1 cup of powdered milk

1 cup of flour

¾ cup of corn flour

1½ cups of oil

¼ cup of almonds, chopped

½ teaspoon of powdered cardamom

¼ cup of rose water

½ teaspoon of saffron

For the syrup:

2 cups of sugar

1 cup of water

Method:

1. Soak the cardamom and saffron in rose water; set aside.

2. Combine the flour, milk, corn flour and oil in a large pan. Cook over medium heat until light brown in color.

3. Mix together water and sugar in a pot and bring to the boil; then add gradually to the toasted flour mixture, stirring quickly.

4. Add the soaked saffron to the halawa and stir well.

5. Fold in almonds and add more water if needed.

6. Pour the hot halawa in small serving bowls.
