The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) is the Middle East’s biggest movie extravaganza. The event is held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. This year is the 12th running of the festival.
The idea is that DIFF is used as a source of influence for film-makers and talents across the region, and one which offers them an international platform.
Event details
Where There are four locations. The main event takes place at Madinat Arena and Madinat Jumeirah Theatre, with a number of movies being shown at Mall of the Emirates. Free open-air movies will also be shown at JBR Beach on the big screen.

How it works Over 120 feature-length films, short films, and documentaries will be screened over the course of the week. This includes several international premiers.
Opening night The 12th DIFF gets underway on the red carpet at 7pm on Wednesday, December 9. The opening ceremony will be broadcast live on the big screen at JBR Beach.
Films Not much has been left out of the DIFF. It doesn’t matter if you’re in the mood for a thriller, horror, fantasy or sci-fi, there is something for all tastes.
Stars This year Dubai is braced for the arrival of Jaws star Richard Dreyfus – one of Hollywood’s true legends. He will be celebrating the famous horror movies’ 40th anniversary and will be in attendance at JBR Beach on Saturday, December 12.
