Just when we thought we’ve seen it all, DXB Cucumber Day comes along and changes everything
On May 17, a collection of 35 Dubai restaurants and lounges will accept a cucumber as form of payment in exchange for a selected mixed beverage.
Think we’re pulling your leg? According to their Facebook page, DXB Cucumber Day's aim is to transform “the humble green fruit into exchangeable monetary units."
You don't have to pay money. You literally have to hand over a cucumber to your server. It is, however, limited to one cucumber per person. Better head to the grocery store.
Responsible retailer Spinneys is offering customers the chance to cut costs on their cucumbers with the launch of its naturally imperfect veg.
Spinneys will be selling wonky cucumbers as part of its ‘I’m perfect’ range, a selection of misshapen fruit and veg that will hit shelves across selected Spinneys stores this week. Described as ‘naturally imperfect’, they will retail at a cost of around 45 per cent less than conventional produce from the same sources, with prices starting from Dh2.75.
Those heading to one of the 35 bars and restaurants set to offer a free mixed beverage in exchange for a cucumber on Wednesday 17 May simply need to pop into Spinneys and collect a misshapen cucumber to save money.
Here is a guide on all restaurants where you can pay with cucumbers in exchange for a selected mixed beverage:
