Film magazine Screen International will launch Arab Stars of Tomorrow at Dubai International Festival this year, with the purpose of identifying promising talent in the region.

The initiative will be modelled after Screen International’s Stars of Tomorrow, which launched 13 years ago in the UK. It predicted the success of several Irish and British actors, including Benedict Cumberbatch, Emily Blunt, James McAvoy, Eddie Redmayne, Carey Mulligan, Tom Hiddleston, Robert Pattinson and John Boyega.

Arab Stars of Tomorrow is not a submission-based initiative. Over the coming months, a dedicated panel will take it upon themselves to survey the current creative climate in the region and shortlist talent from the Arab world. A final list will be announced during Diff, which will take place December 7-14 at Madinat Jumeirah.

Recipients will also be announced at the festival. They will subsequently be profiled, in hopes of opening up further opportunities for them.
