Tree-shaped pizzas are a great novelty item over the festive season Image Credit: Supplied

For a novelty lunch – or when extra guests drop by unannounced this festive season – why not dial in a Christmas-tree- shaped pizza! Yes Virginia, they’re real and they’re actually pretty decent. And they’re in Dubai courtesy the artisan-inspired Zpizza chain.

Christmas-tree pizzas are available in a variety of flavours, from Californian to Hawaiian to pepperoni.

Alternatively, how about ordering NEW YEAR or even your best mates’ initials in pizza letters – it'll make a great talking point.

Inspired by the sandy shores of Laguna Beach, where it first opened in 1986, Zpizza was created to enjoy the pizza-lovers lifestyle in a healthier way, by offering a variety of dough such as a gluten-free option and a wheat flour non-GMO base prepared fresh daily, hand-thrown and fire-baked until perfectly crispy. As you might expect, they’re trying to walk the talk: they use part-skim mozzarella, certified organic tomato sauce, all-natural and MSG-free pepperoni, GMO-free flour and fresh produce.

The chain returned to the UAE market recently with a new franchisee earlier this year and now operates two branches, in Barsha Heights and in Business Bay, and offers a delivery service. Besides the novelty pizzas, customers are able to customise their orders.

So what do they taste like? Zpizza sent over a batch to our offices and we can report that you won't be disappointed. While more could have been done in terms of festive flavours, the team inhaled the lot – including one gluten-free Mexican version with fresh avocado. Of the variety that we tried, the most popular seemed to be pepperoni (we know!). Certainly an option to consider.

Prices begin from Dh20 for small pizzas, ranging to Dh59 for large ones.
