Yoga during the holidays
Holiday stress sounds silly, but it is real and can cause serious damage to your health.
There are countless reasons for getting irritated during your holidays: change in routine, over-spending, watching too much television, over-eating, etc.
Yoga offers several methods of reducing the effects of holiday stress in the form of meditation: basic stretches and pranayama.
Meditation is also recommended when holiday stress knocks on the door.
A detached state of consciousness that grants you a better understanding of the realities around you is referred to as sakshin.
Pratyahara is a state of peace obtained by reducing outside interference to a minimum.
The mind becomes calm and relaxed, focusing on the inside of your body.
By using pranayama you are able to calm yourself in almost any difficult situation. This is accomplished by regulating your breathing which harmonises the energies in your body.
Being prepared for stress is vital for a successful holiday. However, anticipating a potential problem doesn't mean worrying about it beforehand. Instead, it means that when the problem does occur you should already have a good understanding of why it happened.
