Up close: Jackky Bhagnani & Vaishali Desai
Mazhar Farooqui sizes up newcomers Vaishali Desai and Jackky Bhagnani who make their debut in Kal Kisne Dekha, releasing in the UAE on Thursday
Vaishali Desai
Are you nervous?
Nervous? Man, I have got butterflies in my stomach. It's the same feeling you have before an important examination. That said, I am optimistic that the movie will do well and my role will be appreciated.
You are the grandniece of legendary director Manmohan Desai. Do you have any memories of him?
Not really. I was very young when he passed away. But I do have faint recollections of going to his house and playing on the huge swing he had at his place.
Director Vivek Sharma has called you a one-take artist
I read that bit somewhere and I am really flattered. It's really nice of him to say that. It sounds slightly clichéd but I have put in a lot of effort in the role.
Now it's for the audience to decide whether my performance is praiseworthy or not.
You are said to be fiercely ambitious
That's right. But what's wrong in that? Who isn't ambitious in the industry?
An actress you look up to?
There are four actually. Rekha for her sensuousness, Madhuri Dixit for her dancing prowess, Sri Devi for her comic timing and the late Madhubala for her timeless elegance and classic beauty.
Jackky Bhagnani
Does being the son of a famous producer (Vishu Bhagnani) help?
It has its advantages of course, but there are some disadvantages too - in the sense that unlike other newcomers, expectations from someone coming from a Bollywood family are always high.
Kal Kisne Dekha's release was deferred twice. Do you think these false starts would have any bearing on its fate?
I don't think so. The release was delayed because of the ongoing tussle over revenue-sharing issues between producers and multiplexes. This is the first major release in many days and I am sure it will go down well with the audience
Does the fact that futuristic movies haven't done well lately, worry you?
Not one bit.
It's rumoured that Shah Rukh Khan has a cameo in the movie
That's not true.
Your most memorable moment from the movie?
I won't be able to single out one moment because the whole experience was very memorable. But I particularly enjoyed my scenes with Rishi Kapoor. He is a great actor and I learnt a lot from him.
Your all time favourite actors
Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan
DO YOU KNOW
Jackky Bhagnani tipped the scales at 130kg when he was in his late teens and had to lose 62 kgs to realize his dream to become an actor.
