Mr Perfectionist talks about the script, director and co-stars
Ghajini, Taare Zameen Par, 3 Idiots … all iconic films which have one thing in common — Aamir Khan, the man who has helped redefine Bollywood like no other. The actor has come up with something different this time in Talaash. Here Aamir talks about the movie and how it made an impression on him.
Why was Talaash delayed?
It took us longer in post-production. That’s not unusual. Lagaan took a year. The work after a film is shot takes around six months to a year. So this took us one year which is normal. Besides, I also got busy with Satyamev Jayate.
Are you happy with the movie?
I am very happy with how the film has shaped up. I am very proud of the work [director] Reema has done. She has really managed to bring on screen what the script was all about.
What were the challenges you faced while playing Inspector Surjan Singh Shekhawat?
The most difficult aspect was playing a character who has lost someone very close. When you’re performing a role like that, you go into the inner depths of your emotions to bring out this feeling of loss and it often can get very emotionally damaging.
How long did it take for you to say yes?
I loved the script straightaway. From the moment I heard it, I wanted to be a part of the film. Being a suspense drama, it had me intrigued because of the fact that I couldn’t really tell where it was headed and it kept me on the edge, it kept me guessing. When the story ended I was crying. So it wasn’t just a suspense drama but a moving story. It had all the elements needed for a good script to make me want to be a part of it.
Rumours state that Shah Rukh was first approached for this film?
I wasn’t aware about Shah Rukh being approached. In fact, I don’t really know who gets asked first for films I have done.
What can one expect from Kareena? How was it reconnecting with Rani Mukherjee?
Kareena has done a great job and I think people should expect a fantastic performance from her. I have always enjoyed working with Rani. So this opportunity was another great experience altogether. She too is superb in this film.
Reema Kagti states you were quite stubborn about trimming your moustache?
The look for my character was decided jointly by Reema and me. It was a look that we both liked. For me as an actor I have to go with what my director decides so I can’t afford to be stubborn beyond a point.
Will Satyamev Jayate have a second season soon?
Yes, we are working on season two of Satyamev Jayate and it’s going well.
