Today, I will show you how to make postcards for your loved ones. It feels great to give and receive postcards but it's more fun if they are handmade.
STEP 1
You will need a sheet of golden or white chart paper. You will also need a sheet of cardboard, aluminium foil and glass paint in colours of your choice. These are easily available at stationery shops. From the sheet of chart paper, cut a rectangle measuring 30x20cm.
Fold the chart paper in half so it resembles a postcard. It will measure 15x2cm.
STEP 2
Cut the cardboard sheet so it measures 29x19 centimetres (a centimetre less than the chart paper). The aluminium foil should also measure the same as the cardboard sheet.
STEP 3
Take a paintbrush and dip it into the glass paint. Drop blobs of paint on the shiny surface of the foil. Leave a little bit of space in between different colours.
STEP 4
Now smear the blobs of paint with your fingertip and mix the colours and make patterns on the aluminium foil. This is the most enjoyable part.
STEP 5
Once you are satisfied with the colour patterns you have made, use a pin to poke tiny holes on the reverse of the aluminium foil. Exercise caution while carrying out this step.
The objective is to pepper the foil with very small holes.
STEP 6
Now place the aluminium foil on a tissue, with the colourful side facing up. Any excess paint remaining on the aluminium foil will seep through the holes and will be absorbed by the tissue paper. Now leave the aluminium foil to dry for a day.
STEP 7
Cover the plain side of the aluminum sheet with all-purpose glue and paste it on the chart paper.
STEP 8
This is how my postcard looks. The colours have blended beautifully. You will find it easy to create lovely postcards in designs and patterns of your choice using this technique.
Here's a tip: If you do not have glass paint, you can also use different shades of nail polish.
This is another postcard (left) I made. It is a bit different in that I have used silver wrapping paper with a glossy finish. You can find these at shops selling stationery items.
Delight your loved ones with these handmade cards during the festive season.
I wish you happiness.
