Rania Al Hussaini on the MAHE-Manipal design students' graduation presentation

Fashionova - a gala fashion event, featuring well-known Indian models, showcased the creations of graduating MAHE-Manipal design students.

The show included a variety of designs such as chic night wear, elegant abayas, classy ensembles, funky dresses and skirts spiced up by the usage of fun accessories.

Some of the themes of the show are:

  • Arabian Aura: The designs signify the modesty and simplicity of Arabian culture. Yet exploring its traditional luxurious taste by the use of pearls and diamantes incorporated into Persian motifs through gold, silver, blue, black chiffon embroidery.
  • Exotic Orient: These designs are a combination of Western silhouettes and oriental styling, made of silk and brocades.
  • Graphically Bright: Classic dresses and chic club wear are the main trends of this title. The designs are made from geometrically-designed jackets, colourful velvet and straight-cut pants decorated with fabric prints in various shades of red.
  • Life after Death: Egyptian motifs and Cleopatra's style are the theme of this show. The clothes are made of delicate fabric, mixed with antique colours, palettes of dull green, red, yellow and brown.
  • Carmen the Gypsy: Its designs are made of symmetrical and asymmetrical silhouettes, which include circular skirts and halters that are made of handcrafted crochets, chiffon, satin and silk. However, the usage of wraps, belts and other accessories is what made these designs exclusive.
