Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln’ to premiere at New York Film Festival

Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” will have its world premiere on Monday at the New York Film Festival. Two days later, Spielberg and the film’s star, Daniel Day-Lewis, will participate in a live Q&A chat following a 7pm screening of “Lincoln” at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13 in New York. Fans can submit questions for the conversation via Twitter using the hashtag #Lincolnmovie. The screening will start simultaneously in nine other cities with audiences being able to watch the Q&A via satellite. The chat will also stream live on Yahoo! Movies at movies.yahoo.com/lincoln-live/. DreamWorks also unveiled a new trailer for the film Wednesday night, following the US presidential debate. The two-minute spot showed marked improvement over the sleepy solemnity of the initial trailer, beginning with a series of images — Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jumior, Nelson Mandela, female suffragists, the flag-raising at Iwo Jima, the Normandy D-day landing, the columns of light where the World Trade Centre towers once stood — as we listen to Day-Lewis’ high-pitched, Kentucky drawl. “We’ve shown that people can endure awful sacrifice and yet cohere,” Day-Lewis’ Lincoln tells us forcefully. “Shall we stop this bleeding?” Then we see additional battles scenes, more urgency and less Tommy Lee Jones, not to mention a scene of Sally Field’s Mary Todd Lincoln getting in Honest Abe’s face.
