Kanat 5 Njoum is one of the most popular shows during Ramadan

Last updated:

Kanat 5 Njoum (The Five Star Channel) is a special Ramadan entertainment programme that seems to have taken the entire Arab world by storm. What makes it even more appealing is the host: Egyptian presenter Hala Serhan who is one of the most important figures in the world of Arab media.

According to several surveys, Kanat 5 Njoum, produced by Pac for Rotana and broadcast every night on Rotana Music, is one of the most watched Ramadan variety shows in the region.

The concept

So, what exactly is the programme all about? According to Mireille Merhej, production coordinator, "The concept of the programme is that every host has to run a TV station called Kanat 5 Njoum for two hours, trying to make the best choices he can." The result is two hours of fun and entertainment.

Lebanese maestro Simon Asmar directs the programme. Three groups ensure the smooth running of Kanat 5 Njoum — one in Kuwait, one in Egypt and one, of course, in Beirut, where more than 50 people meet every day in Biel studios. Among them is programme producer May Nassour.

a-list artists

Merhej said that "one of the things that makes Kanat 5 Njoum important is that the programme hosts only A-list artists".
The last episode this Friday will host Lebanese singer Najwa Karam.

Hala on a high

Hala Serhan, who cannot go back to her country because of a lawsuit against her, spends most of her time in London. Kanat 5 Njoum is the first programme she has hosted from Beirut. It might not be the last, though.
