Remembering Those Less Fortunate

Remembering Those Less Fortunate

Last updated:

As Ramadan approaches, you see people getting ready for the holy month.

Shopping for special Ramadan treats and going to tailors to make that perfect Eid outfit (you have to get in there quickly otherwise no one will have time to make your clothes for you!).

The supermarkets are packed and everyone's excitement is contagious - although, for expats living away from home, this can be a difficult period where their distance from their family can really be felt.

In spite of all its difficulties, what people cannot forget is what this month stands for: it is the time when we are meant to remember those less fortunate and feel their suffering.

Every day we are blessed with a meal with which to break our fast and for that we must be thankful - others are not so fortunate.

Ramadan is a time when we should go out of our way to help those less fortunate and give as much as we can.

It is a time when all disputes should be dropped and people come together for God.

Fasting helps increase patience and tolerance while its rules stop people doing wrong.

It may sound idealistic but just think of how much better the world would be if this really did happen.
