Reiki has been described as a positive healing energy. With just one session, Nanda Sharad, a second degree Reiki channel (teacher), says it can heal physical, emotional or mental pain.

Nearly six years ago, Sharad found she could not move her right arm. She visited various doctors who told her to either change her pillow or use medication to ease the pain. None of which helped.

Shortly after, she ran into a relative who introduced her to Reiki. She recalls how the pain almost immediately went away and she was able to fully move her hand and shoulders with ease.

Passing on the lessons

Now, she is helping others deal with problems by concentrating on re-balancing their points of energy and removing what she describes as "blockage".

Starting this month, Sharad has organised a ladies' Reiki healing group in Sharjah.

"This gathering is great for people who want to learn more about Reiki and listen to experienced teachers telling their own success stories," said Sharad.

Natural process

With Reiki, Sharad said anything is possible from recovering lost documents to dealing with stress and insomnia.

"This is a natural process which works through the hands. I put my hands above a certain chakra (balance) point and concentrate on releasing energy," said Sharad. "I believe it is a kind of miracle."

The duration of each healing session depends on the individual and how much energy he or she requires.

It is possible for those interested in Reiki to learn to help themselves as well as others. But first, they need to rid themselves of all blockages in their body and cleanse themselves with positive energy through this practice.

Help yourself

"I remember when I was sick, my doctors said it seemed to be psychological," said Sharad. "But you can help yourself and better your life."

She pointed out there are four steps in Reiki. To start with, there is the first degree channel which means once the person has cleansed themselves they can start healing others.

Second degree Reiki channel means the person can perform distant healing, which means the subject does not have to be physically in front of the teacher. Then there are two third-degree channels — the first is a masters degree just for the self and the second is the teacher's degree.

Success stories

Reiki healer Nanda Sharad has encountered various "miracles" as a result of the practice.

One client came to her with an ankle problem and during Reiki, they heard her bone clicking back into place.

Another example was when a young lady was hospitalised and was in critical condition. Sharad was with her mother when she received the bad news. Right then, she performed distant Reiki, even though she had never met the daughter before.

"I swear, not even five minutes passed when the hospital called her back and told her that her daughter was better," Sharad said. "Honestly, you have to try it or see it for yourself in order to believe it."
